Some time back I had a divorced woman contact me via the LegalDocsPro chat line for legal help. She was divorced, and according to her the ex-husband has been stalking her and cyber stalking for sometime.
I am not an attorney nor a paralegal, so I could not give much legal advice. But I did give some fatherly advice on a follow up phone call, as my wife listened and participated at times.
First, I addressed her own observation that she was too emotional in the court room. I suggested to her that using our legal forms could perhaps help her change her emotions into legal motions such as object, strike, appeal, etc.
Second, I discussed some measures I felt would help her better secure her computer networks from hacking. Her story had convinced me that her stalker had in fact penetrated her computer network via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. I suggested that she immediately make these changes to her router and other network communications:
1. Eliminate all Bluetooth communications to and from her computers, etc. I told her of my own experience where I had my conversation in a car snooped on while using a Bluetooth earphone. Later I learned from others more knowledgeable about just how insecure Bluetooth is.
2. Stop broadcasting your SSID from you wireless router and change your SSID. Make it hard like a password. Now the SSID becomes like a second password.
3. Change your password and make it even harder.
4. Set up your router so that only IP or Wifi-MAC addresses previously entered by her are able to connect to her network.
I told her that she might still experience her router shutting down when a hack attack was happening, but that those changes should help to better protect the data on her computer and network.
