When income tax time comes around MANY parents who are separated and/or divorced want to know whether or not they can claim their children as dependents when they file their taxes.

It is VERY important that when you are negotiating an agreement that one of the issues that is discussed is which parent gets to claim the children. There are many different ways the issue can be resolved IF it is dealt with. If a settlement is done and that issue is NOT addressed or resolved it can cause major problems for the parents for many years to come.

There are lots of issues like this that people forget about when they are trying to work things out on their own.
