My dad’s professional career back in the late 80s became at odds with Pete Rose as he was Ron Peters lawyer, Pete's bookie. Pete always claimed that he didn't know Ron or never had been to his bar in Franklin., Jonathans, but of course he had been there many times. Dad spent hours in his office while John Dowd, major league baseballs investigator, questioned him and showed him betting slips. It got a little contentious at times because they were bound and determined to get Ron to say that Pete bet against the Reds. He never did, and Ron continued time and time again to tell them that he never bet against the Reds. Ron is gone now and so is Pete so I guess this brings an era to an end. After all this happened, Ron was asked many times about Pete and he always said Pete should be in the Hall of Fame. This is the bat that Pete gave to Ron autographed for his son that ultimately proved his involvement with the Franklin bookie….hanging in our office.
I met Pete twice. Absolute legend.
