We have information to share regarding services in honor of Ed Silva:

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church in downtown Franklin. Visitation will be from Noon until service time at the church. The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend.

The law firm of Hartzog & Silva, PLLC and Heritage Title will host a celebration of life reception at their offices in honor of Ed on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All members of the Franklin and Nashville communities are welcome to attend. https://www.williamsonmemorial.com/obituaries/ed-silva

Our Davis House family is deeply saddened by the passing of Ed Silva, a dear friend and longtime supporter of our mission. ❤️

When Ed was first introduced to Davis House, he was shocked by what he learned about child abuse in our community and troubled that more people weren’t aware of the need.

In his own words, “I was personally shocked to think that I’ve been in this community as long as I have been, and didn’t know that there was such a high incidence of child abuse, and child sexual abuse. It was kind of disturbing to learn of that and think, ‘why aren’t we more proactive in supporting it?’”

For Ed and his wife, SuSu, learning about the need quickly became a desire to do something about it. After visiting Davis House, they asked how they could help. When they learned how important a sensory environment could be for the children we serve, they chose to make our Sensory Room possible.

Ed later reflected, “It is one of the most impactful things we’ve ever done in our 50 years in this community.”

And his impact is still felt in that room every day.

We are, and forever will be, reminded of Ed when we hear a child’s laughter coming from the Sensory Room, when we walk in to find a new drawing on the easel, or when we see a new message on the sequin board.

Those moments are part of the legacy Ed leaves at Davis House. They remind us of someone who learned about a need in his community, asked what he could do, and then chose to do something meaningful about it.

We are deeply grateful for Ed’s belief in our mission and for the lasting impact he and SuSu have made for children and families. Our hearts are with SuSu, their family, and all those who knew and loved him.

His impact here will not be forgotten. 💙

In Loving Memory of Ed Silva

Ed Silva was a True Southern Gentleman, and his commitment to preservation was witnessed by every person that met him. He was one of the supporters who helped get Franklin’s Streetscape over the top - a project that transformed downtown Franklin and helped preserve the character of the community we know and love today. Ed championed and accomplished so much for Williamson County and will be missed.

Franklin Tomorrow joins the community in mourning the death of Ed Silva, an attorney of more than 50 years in Williamson County, but who distinguished himself in his dedicated efforts and leadership as it related to historic preservation. He was the Board chair of the Heritage Foundation of Williamson County more than once as well as working with other organizations like Carnton, now part of the The Battle of Franklin Trust. Rarely did you doubt where you stood with Ed, but we proudly stood with him in early 2024 when he was honored by our organization and the community with the Anne T. Rutherford Lifetime Achievement Award at our Exemplary Community Volunteer Awards.

Franklin lost one of its great ones today.

You'd know Ed Silva's voice anywhere. No amount of time in Tennessee ever softened that unmistakable Boston accent, and he never tried. A Boston College graduate, Ed served as a U.S. Navy officer aboard the USS Constellation in the Western Pacific and Vietnam, reaching the rank of lieutenant.

As a founding member of Hartzog & Silva, Ed practiced law for more than forty-five years from a historic building in the heart of downtown, becoming one of Tennessee's most respected family law attorneys and mediators. He wasn't born in Franklin, but few people have ever loved it more or given more to protect it.

His devotion to this community was recognized many times over. A founder of the Downtown Franklin Association. Two-time chair of the Heritage Foundation board of directors. Honorary chair of the 2025 Heritage Ball. Franklin's Citizen of the Year. Heritage Foundation Legacy Award recipient. Heritage Ball Patron Award honoree. Co-chair and lead donor of the Franklin Grove Estate and Gardens capital campaign. Tireless champion of historic preservation and the small businesses that give this town its heartbeat.

Ed had a rare gift for making longtime neighbors and newcomers feel like they belonged to the same place, because they do. Together with his wife Susu, he gave time, heart, and resources so that Franklin could keep its character while it grew into its future.

To Susu and the entire Silva family, our hearts are with you.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our founding father, Edward P. Silva. Ed passed away Monday morning, September 28, 2026, after a brief illness.

Ed was born and raised in Marlborough, Massachusetts, but moved permanently to Tennessee after two tours in the US Navy. Ed ultimately settled in Franklin where he began his career as a lawyer working for his father-in-law, Dave Alexander, and alongside his life-long friends, Mark Hartzog and Don Harris. In the late 1970s Ed, Mark, and Don established their own firm, Hartzog, Harris & Silva (now Hartzog & Silva), which has been in continuous operation since.

Although a native New Englander, Ed adopted Franklin as his home. He was actively involved in his law practice and his community throughout his life. He was well respected across Tennessee as a family lawyer and mediator, and as a community activist in and for Franklin and Williamson County. His counsel and advice were constantly sought in both arenas.

Among other accomplishments, Ed was past president of the Williamson County Bar Association, a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, named Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers as a family lawyer on multiple occasions, past chairman of the Tennessee Supreme Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, past president of the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County, founding director of the Downtown Franklin Association, and recipient of the Heritage Foundation Legacy Award, and Franklin Tomorrow’s Anne T. Rutherford Exemplary Community Volunteer Award.

Ed is survived by his wife, Suzanne, children, Tony Silva and Alexandra Silva, and two grandchildren, Jack & Jane Fannon.

We are on Team Ed! As some of you may know, our fearless leader, the Godfather, Ed Silva, has been facing some health issues recently. Rest assured he is home and doing well, but we miss having him in the office every day. Thanks to Tim Pagliara for these shirts! Ed is appreciative of his many friends who have been checking in on him the past few weeks and we look forward to having him back in the office.
