During Judge Tim O’Hare’s State of the County talk at a Fort Worth Chamber luncheon, he outlined four priorities guiding county leadership: lowering taxes and promoting responsible spending, supporting residents in need, creating a strong environment for job growth, and prioritizing public safety. If nothing else, we learned last summer that clerk Brian Roberts is focused! He wanted to teach. He wanted to join the Army to serve our country. He wants to run. He wants to practice law. Done. Done. Done. And welcome to the firm, Brian.

He has known for a long time he wants to litigate. During his final year at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Brian and a partner began litigating claims for Veterans. “I always have gravitated toward advocacy and this was something that combined that desire with my wish to litigate. A lot of lawyers do this pro bono.”

Coming back this year, Brian said it felt good to walk in the doors. “Familiar faces and already being welcomed as part of the team.” Work, however, won’t keep him from running. He has applied to run the Tokyo Marathon in the spring.

Summer 2025, clerk Tommy Redell, on his way back to Pepperdine Law School for Year 3, said, “Oh, I will be back. I definitely plan to take the Texas Bar. Kate (his fiancée) and I have set our plans, our lives around Fort Worth. It is special to us.”

He and Kate are back, and we’re thrilled to have Tommy working with mentor and litigator Cailin Ringelman.

“I came in last summer thinking I would be all transactional and switched after working with Cailin and the rest of the litigation team,” Tommy said. “I went back to law school more confident and feeling better about problem solving.”

About his first days back, Tommy said, “orientation was interesting. I was kind of nervous thinking about coming back, but knowing everyone and being welcomed has made it easy. And I learned my lesson. First day of my clerkship, I was not wearing a tie. I sure was this time.”

When we left Ben Parker last summer, the clerk’s claim to fame was that his great-grandfather, I.C. Parker, and I.C.’s brother J.T. (Stubby) had invented the ice cream drumstick in Fort Worth in 1928.

Ben is back at Cantey Hanger and has a bigger scoop this time around. He is employed and working with our firm’s business transactions group, helping Michael Appleman with Trust & Wills (“Michael is hilarious”), Tyler Craig and Sara Norman. “On my first day, Sara gave me a welcome book ... about HOAs. It had a sticky note with my name on it.”

Ben said after having been a clerk during Summer 2025, he went back to Houston Law Center with a different perspective. “I had a more pointed idea of what I wanted to do,” he said. “I structured classes around that. My intention was to get back to Fort Worth.”

It was a very special day for three of our associates. The Honorable Judge Mark T. Pittman graciously set aside time before his docket to administer the oath as they were admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court - Northern District.

During the ceremony for Devon Davis, Ethan Lennon and Isaac Olson, Judge Pittman asked each about their law school background. He also remarked about Cantey Hanger’s strong reputation, noting that his predecessor, the Hon. John McBryde, began his career with the firm. Special thanks to Partner Cailin Ringelman, who served as their sponsor, and Megan Goor, who took the photos to commemorate the day.

Our attorneys enjoy breaking away to help on committees, and with non-profits and future attorneys. The annual Main Table event supports the excellent work of Downtown Fort Worth. We believe strong downtowns are good for communities, have been in downtown Fort Worth since 1882, and support DFWI because of the way it represents businesses.

Our firm's Dallas and Waxahachie offices are also in their respective downtowns. Our dinner from Grace was excellent and Kim and Antonio Allen, Sandy and Brian Newby, Nell and Ryan Valdez, Sara Norman and Katy Kirbo enjoyed the evening.

Planning for your special-needs loved one’s future doesn't have to be a guessing game.

The Ellis County Bar Association is hosting a free Guardianship Forum in Waxahachie on September 25th to help special-needs families navigate legal guardianship, alternatives, government benefits and local resources.

Cassandra Payton, Partner in our Waxahachie office, will be leading a session on "Alternatives to Guardianship."

Other scheduled topics include: Guardianship Overview by Stephen Crane with the Crane Law Firm, Medicaid Benefits by Lindsey Hughes with The Hale Law Firm, P.C. and Community Resources by Michael Boler with Bridges Training Foundation.
