Volunteer Lawyers for Justice is celebrating Women's History Month by shining a spotlight on the extraordinary women whose leadership guide the organization and drive VLJโs efforts to ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty.
This morning, we celebrate Kaitlyn Stone (โKateโ), Partner at Barnes & Thornburg LLP and a member of VLJโs Board of Trustees.
A volunteer with VLJ since 2015, Kate has donated an impressive 502 hours of her time and talent, meaning over $163,000 in lifechanging legal services for VLJโs New Jersey Human Trafficking Survivors Legal Assistance Program, Reentry Legal Services (ReLeSe) Program, South Ward Promise Neighborhood Program, and Veterans Legal Program. A professional prolifically powering progress through pro bono, a two-time VLJ Volunteer of the Month (July 2017 and August 2023), and a past co-chair of VLJโs Generation Now Committee, Kateโs generosity continued when she accepted an appointment onto VLJโs board in 2020.
An experienced health and life sciences litigator, Kateโs leadership and insight are prized across New Jersey and beyond. An enthusiastic champion of pro bono, Kate is the Pro Bono Partner for Barnes & Thornburg's New Jersey office, centering access to justice and giving back in the office culture. A widely published thought leader in the areas of effective crisis management, creative cross-border litigation tactics, and fostering meaningful diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession, Kate served on the 2023 editorial board of New Jersey Law360, and she is an active member of the Product Liability Advisory Council.
VLJ isnโt the only one to celebrate Kate. In 2019, Kate received the New Jersey State Bar Associationโs New Attorney Award for her pro bono efforts with VLJ and LSNWJ - Legal Services of Northwest Jersey. Additionally, Kate was honored with the JD Supra Top Author Readers' Choice Award as well as being recognized as a NJ Law Journal New Leaders of the Bar and a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.
