ECAR would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Building Industry Association for their continued support in both 2025 and 2026 of our work with Building Homes for Heroes.

We are especially grateful for their partnership as we continue coming together around a mission that reflects the very best of our industry: honoring service, strengthening families, and helping make homeownership possible for those who have sacrificed so much.

Recently, Chrissy Hartley, ECAR’s Building Homes for Heroes Task Force Chair, had the opportunity to introduce the family who will be receiving this year’s home, share the location of the project, and provide information on how members and community partners can get involved.

From the upcoming Bowling Tournament to the broader mission of Building Homes for Heroes, there are so many meaningful ways to support this incredible project. ECAR is honored to stand alongside the BIA, our members, and our community partners as we help shape the footprint of homeownership across our area.

Together, we are doing more than building a home. We are building hope, gratitude, and a lasting reminder of what can happen when a community comes together.

Retired U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Justin Day, a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient who sustained serious injuries from an IED in Afghanistan in 2018, has a mortgage-free home for his family.

REALTOR® Chrissy Hartley, a volunteer with Building Homes for Heroes, played a role in each step of that journey—from helping to secure the lot and the homebuilder to the groundbreaking and the final home dedication.

“Walking with the Day family through each milestone was a powerful reminder that being a REALTOR® is not just about the transactions, it’s about the people you meet along the way and using my platform to serve those who have sacrificed for our country,” she said.

When Staff Sgt. Day stepped inside his fully furnished new home, he shared that his previous couch had been held together with duct tape and that he never imagined being able to provide something like this for his family. Moments like these reflect the lasting impact REALTORS® make in their communities.
