Soldiers, your rights are your strongest shield when interacting with CID. If CID asks to:

✅ Search your home, barracks room, vehicle, or any other property
✅ Question you about a matter

You have the right to say NO. Politely but firmly:
• Decline to consent to any search.
• Request to speak with an attorney immediately.

PSA from your friendly neighborhood TDS office: anyone in the military can be ordered to testify against you, including your battle-buddy. One of the few exceptions is your TDS Attorney. So, if you find yourself under investigation or facing legal action, DON’T TALK TO ANYONE EXCEPT YOUR ATTORNEY.

FREE ADVICE FRIDAY:
New to Georgia? You may want to read this!

Hypothetical: SGT Snuffy is new to Georgia. He drinks a beer, waits 50 minutes, and drives to a Savannah Bananas game. He changes lanes without a signal and gets pulled over. The arresting officer asks SGT Snuffy to consent to a breathalyzer. SGT Snuffy refuses. To his surprise, SGT Snuffy is then arrested for violating the Georgia DUI Less Safe law. His commander has now informed him that he will receive a GOMOR. What happened?

In Georgia, you can be charged with a crime for driving under the influence EVEN IF you are below the legal blood alcohol content limit (0.08). The DUI Less Safe Statute makes it illegal to drive while influenced by alcohol IN ANY AMOUNT if it makes you a less safe driver. Refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test will likely result in an arrest for DUI Less Safe. Now you know!*
