This sweet new review had me in tears today. Being an immigration lawyer has become in many ways a living nightmare. So many days I feel like I will crack under the weight of it all. But I try so hard to show up each day and remember that I have to be strong and do my best because people's lives are on the line. Immigration can feel so hopeless now and I know I have to be the beacon of hope for so many. That if I back down, this administration wins. But it's so draining and nobody understands except my fellow immigration lawyers, my brothers and sisters in arms.
This week has been particularly difficult...I had a nasty green card interview at the Atlanta Field Office, a removal hearing where my client really has no relief available, an appellate brief due this week, an appellate brief due next week and another appellate brief due the following week on top of all the normal case work. I've been feeling like I'm drowning and I cant stop or take a break or a mental health day or whatever because I have to meet the deadlines. So I march on.
But then came this review. And it hit me so hard. Ethan's note literally made me cry. I've been working with these clients for 10 years and we finally achieved residency status step by step. To see the words, "we can feel safe in our home" broke me. I thought about all the poor children out there who have lost their parents under this administration to deportation and I feel for each of them. And the gift for this little boy to not have to worry anymore about his dad. I gave him that gift. And so this review revitalized me, renewed my spirit, made me remember why I do this. Why I love immigration law. Why I choose to do this when I could excel in any field of law. At irs core,I love keeping families together.
So, yes, are reviews great for marketing and bringing in clients? Of course. But do they mean so much more? Yes. I often read my reviews wh a case gets me down so I can pump myself back up and remember why I do this. Why I put myself under this stress every day. Your words mean so much to me.
Thank you to everyone who has written me a review and given me the fuel needed to keep soldiering on.
