Honoring Juneteenth: Reflecting on Freedom & Legacy

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a powerful reminder of the delayed promise of freedom and the ongoing pursuit of justice. On June 19, 1865, news of emancipation finally reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth may be a recently observed federal holiday but is a deeply rooted and long-standing holiday that has been celebrated within the African American community.

As a minority-owned law firm, we recognize the importance of using our legal knowledge to empower families and protect legacies, especially within communities that have historically been underserved and overlooked.

We reflect today not only on history, but also on the continued fight for equity, representation, and access to justice for all.

Air Fryer Tajín-Flavored Chicken Wings
Food is one of my love languages. I love cooking for friends and family. The daily grind of cooking for 2 kids, however, can be ROUGH. Here’s a dish I recently whipped up that proved to be a hit all around.
Measurements: Let the ancestors guide you as they did me
Garlic cloves
Kosher Salt
Olive Oil
Black Pepper
Melted butter
Garlic powder
Onion powder
Tajín

Clean chicken in mixture of water, vinegar, and lemon juice. Rinse. Coat chicken with mashed garlic, kosher salt, blessing of olive oil. Add black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and Tajín. Melt a little bit of butter (enough to lightly coat) and pour over the seasoned chicken.

Air Fryers vary, but I preheated mine to 390° for about 5 minutes. I added the chicken and cooked for about 20-25 minutes, turning the chicken for the final 10 minutes or so. Tip: use a paper liner to reduce clean up time.

Enjoy as is or with your favorite dipping sauce!
