Kweku Darfoor was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone to Ghanaian parents. At the time of his birth, his family was based in Sierra Leone because his father was High Commissioner at the Ghana embassy to Sierra Leone. With unrest happening in Ghana in the early 80's, his father emigrated from Accra, Ghana in the early 80’s. Kweku followed at the age of six years old. His family settled in the Washington

D.C. suburb of Gaithersburg, Maryland where he attended Brown Station elementary school and Ridgeview Middle School. After attending one year of high school in Gaithersburg, his family moved to Palm Beach County, Florida where he would eventually graduate from Santaluces High School in Lantana, Florida, excelling academically and athletically. He began college at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida but eventually transferred to Florida Atlantic University where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in International Economics. At FAU, he was involved in Student Government as a student senator and co-founded the university chapter of NAACP. He would later earn his Masters of International Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University and his Juris Doctorate from Florida State University, College of Law. Upon graduating from law school, he took a business development role in Washington, DC with a commercial real estate company that specializes in data (CoStar). Unsatisfied with the quality and type of work, he returned to South Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) in 2014 to open his own law practice. Kweku remains dedicated to community development, both in the United States and Ghana. His passion for the community leads him to serve on various boards, including Urban Philanthropies of Ft. Lauderdale, Autism Awareness Care & Training in Accra, Ghana, Corey Jones Foundation, Chair of Black Alumni Society and member of Board of Directors for Alumni Association of his undergraduate alma mater (FAU).

It is with immense sorrow that we mourn the loss of Dr. Edward K. Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister for Defence, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation. They were among eight people aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 military helicopter that crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 .

Let us hold in our thoughts and prayers their families, friends, colleagues, and the entire nation of Ghana during this painful time. Their dedicated service and legacy will not be forgotten.

May their souls rest in peace. 🙏
