Let’s look at this eye-opening stat from the Federal Reserve: The median family net wealth is $188,200 for White families, $36,100 for Hispanic families, and a mere $24,100 for Black families.
So what’s the major factor behind this staggering gap? Home equity, plain and simple. As we all head into the weekend, it’s got me thinking—what can I do, in my role as a mortgage professional, to help bridge this divide?
For starters, I believe it’s crucial to keep educating as many people as possible about the benefits of owning a home. That includes spreading the word about resources like down payment assistance and mortgage credit certificates. Let’s work together to level the playing field and chip away at this wealth gap.
