I think a lot of law firm owners quietly believe: “Once I hit the next revenue level, it’ll finally feel easier.”

But what often happens is the exact opposite. The firm grows… and suddenly everything requires more of you.

More oversight.

More approvals.

More client involvement.

More responsibility.

Until one day you realize the business only functions when you’re actively holding it together.

Then the question becomes... “How do I get out of this?”

How do I take a vacation?

Spend more time with my family?

Leave the office at 2pm on a Wednesday?

How my firm signed a new client *without me*:

I remember seeing a Slack notification that a new client had signed. I looked at the name, and I had no idea who they were. I had never spoken to them.

The firm had just closed a client without me. And the intake director wasn’t selling the client on ME. She was selling the client on what the firm does and can do for them.

She walked them through the process, answered their questions, handled the close, and I found out about it through Slack.

That’s what a sales system looks like.

You can be the face of your firm and still not be the one closing every client. The system closes them. Your job is to build the system.

I have coached enough law firm owners to know that the strategy does not work without the proper foundation.

Hiring does not fix role confusion.

Systems do not fix weak leadership.

Delegation does not fix a firm that is still designed around the owner.

The first call is always about clarity. What are you building? What role are you actually meant to play in it? Where is the firm still running through you?

That is where the work starts.

In December 2025, I sold my law firm.

I was able to sell because the buyer could step into my shoes.

A documented sales process.

A team that could run without me.

A client experience that was not dependent on my personal involvement.

Those same factors are what made the firm run without me, years before I ever sold it.

The firm that allowed me slow mornings, traveling abroad (my favorite activity!), space to create and think.

A firm I could “live” in. A firm to support me.

That is why I care about this work.

Build it to run without you. Then decide, on your own terms, what you want to do with it.
