I’m delighted to have helped secure federal trademark protection for YOGUYS®!

Congratulations to my client RCS Partners LLC and Bob Schwartz, the “yoguy” behind the trademark, on this exciting milestone!

YOGUYS® is a yoga program designed specifically for men over 50, with a focus on strength, mobility, balance, and overall wellness in a welcoming, approachable environment.

As someone who has practiced yoga for decades, I especially love working with clients who share my interests and passions. It makes celebrating milestones like this even more meaningful!

One of my favorite parts of working with clients over time is getting to watch what they build evolve and helping make sure their trademark protection evolves with it.

A trademark portfolio does not always begin and end with one registration. As a business, personal brand, or creative career grows, it is worth revisiting whether the protection already in place still reflects everything the brand has become.

A cheap trademark filing can become an expensive problem.

A trademark application can look straightforward, but choices made at the beginning can affect whether the application registers, how useful the resulting protection is, and how much it may cost to deal with problems later.

The owner needs to be correct. The goods and services need to be properly identified. The filing basis matters. And a meaningful search should happen before you invest time and money into the application.

Some mistakes can be corrected.

Others can lead to additional government fees, additional legal fees, delays, or starting over with a new application.

Before you file, make sure you understand what you are filing and why.

The Mermaid Lawyer® will never be everyone’s cup of tea. It was never supposed to be.

The strongest personal brands are not built around universal appeal. They are built around clarity.

As The Mermaid Lawyer® has grown and evolved, I’m incredibly grateful for the clients, colleagues, friends, and supporters it has brought into my life, and especially for the people who have been there since the beginning.

The people who understand my personality, trust my work, support what I’m building, and genuinely enjoy working with me are exactly the kind of people I’m grateful to have around me.

I grew up on a stage, so yes, I enjoy being in the spotlight. Performing, creating, speaking, dressing in color, and doing things a little differently have always been part of who I am.

I don’t need to appeal to everyone. The right people understand who I am, value what I do, and genuinely want to work with me.

I’m very grateful for the people who get it, and for the ones who have been getting it from the very beginning.

My work as a lawyer is analytical, high pressure and often centered around complicated problems that need to be solved.

Performing asks something completely different of me. It gets me out of my head, into the water, and fully present in what I’m doing.

I’ve performed in some form for most of my life, but I didn’t start performing as a mermaid until after I had my kids. What started as something creative became a consistent outlet for me and one of the ways I reset mentally and emotionally.

If you grew up in the performing arts, or you’ve always felt most at home in the water, you probably understand that feeling.

We all have different ways of resetting. This is one of mine.

There is no single way to look professional, sound professional, or build a professional identity.

The strongest brands usually have a point of view. So do the people behind them.

You do not have to strip away the things that make you recognizable in order to be respected for the work you do.

If you work in a field where everyone starts to look and sound the same, being memorable is one of your greatest advantages.
