Hey hey!

I’m patiently waiting for an expedite to come in. Hopefully it’ll pop up soon otherwise it’s going to be a loooong night! 🥱 Expedite jobs are great because the faster the turnaround time, the more you can charge per page. 😉

I had an expedite job yesterday too! My mom came over to hang out with the boys so I could knock it out. 💪 She also brought an insane amount of bubbles because Grandma knows what’s good! 🫧🫧🫧

Yesterday, my son found his first praying mantis of the year! Yes, we brought it in the house. We love them! And yes, we stuck it back outside when he was done playing with it. The mantis is still hanging around on our back screen doing mantis things.

Hump Day!!!

And my first day in the last week that I have no work on my schedule. This past week was bananas in terms of how many transcripts were due. 😵‍💫 But I survived and I’m going to love the payout for all of my hard work!

Even on my days off from proofreading I can’t help but keep myself busy. I decided a few days ago that I suck at typing. I then decided I was going to work on that, because I want to be able to type without looking at the keyboard.

I KNOW. I KNOW. Pretty basic skill, right? Well, not for me. I am a notorious ‘search and peck’ typer. And I have to be looking at the keyboard to do it. So I have given myself a goal of at least 15 minutes a day to practice typing and my goal is to hit 50wpm without looking at the keyboard.

How’s your Saturday night going?

Mine is quiet. Kids are in bed already, hubby is relaxing downstairs, and I’m at my new desk knocking out pages. 💪

It’s been a busy week for me and I’m not done yet! Been proofing all day and I’m going to attempt to get a couple more hours in before I turn in for the night. 🥱

As a transcript proofreader, most of my jobs are depositions. Depositions can cover just about anything! Car accidents, construction defects, slip and falls, civil suits, you name it! 📑

A deposition is held outside of court to gather testimony from a witness prior to a court hearing or trial. They can be held virtually or in-person. I’ve had transcripts where the witness is attending virtually while sitting in their car! 🚗

They can also be extremely short, or they could last all day. Sometimes even over several days! Because every deposition varies in length, that means every transcript I proof varies too. I could work on one that is just 20 pages, or I could have one that is over 300 pages! It definitely keeps things interesting. 😄

Starting my Saturday morning at my crowded kitchen island with a transcript and a cup of coffee. My three-year-old son is eating breakfast next to me with his stormtrooper, the baby is playing in his Pack ‘N Play doing baby things, and the 12-year-old is, of course, still in bed. 😂

Happy Friday!

It’s July and officially too hot outside. Today’s high is 104! Needless to say, I will be staying inside because no thank you to the instant sweat that will happen if I step foot outside. I have always preferred warm weather but this time of year is just too much!

My name is Brandi and I'm a transcript proofreader. "What is that?" you may ask. Well, it means I proofread transcripts! But not just any transcripts, I proof court transcripts. I work with court reporters (CR) to help them produce top-notch transcripts that have as few errors as possible.

My job is to make the CR's life easier. I research grammar/punctuation rules, I help them get their transcripts polished and turned in on time, and I do it all with a sense of humor to try and make their day a little brighter.
