It is with an extremely heavy heart that I write to inform you that Richard “Rick” Delello, who was Of Counsel at our firm, peacefully passed on January 21, 2025 from a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Rick was surrounded by his family.
Rick was a brilliant lawyer but an even better person. No one had a bigger presence than Rick. His voice was commanding and everyone knew it. He was respected by everyone. Lawyers knew they were dealing with someone who was upfront and honest. Part of his brilliance was his ability to tell a story not only in the legal context but in life. His attention to detail and writing skills were second to none.
Rick was also one of the most generous and kind person that you would have ever come across. He used the knowledge he had gained and things he experienced to always help others. He donated so much of his time to so many organizations and sometimes to just talk to people and give them advice about whatever issue they were dealing with. In fact, most people who had the privilege of having Rick in their lives would say that he was not just a friend but an advisor. He simply cherished the opportunity to teach and help others in any way he could.
He was not a man without flaws but he overcame every obstacle to have a great life - something he reminded people of at the end. He technically had 6 sons, but in reality he had thousands. Rick was so very proud of his kids and their choices in life. He was an amazing father.
Rick’s first wife, Margaret, passed from cancer several years ago. He remarried Betsy Ioannidis who is an exceptional person in so many ways. Betsy was strong throughout this entire ordeal. His judgement was always spot on, and it showed in his two marriages. As Rick would say, he out kicked his punt coverage twice.
Rick will be sorely missed by so many, but his legacy will live on.
The arrangements are in the below link.
