On This Day in History | May 17, 1954

Brown V Board of Education was decided when the Supreme Court issued a unanimous 9–0 decision in favor of the Browns. The Court ruled that “separate educational facilities are inherently unequal,” and therefore laws that impose them violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. ⚖️

Just four days later, Fayetteville High School was among the first schools in the South to integrate. The Fayetteville School Board voted to begin integration at the start of the fall semester in 1954.

Thoughts on this story from Barstool Sports about our fan base? 😆

The most toxic outlet in the country just named Arkansas' fan base among college football's most toxic. The problem is Arkansas might be too low.

Nathan Willis’ documentary “explores the creation and installation of Arkansas’s newest statues and the enduring legacies of two of the state’s most iconic figures.”

“Unveiled” explores the profound impact of Daisy Bates and Johnny Cash on the history of our great state and the nation, Arkansas PBS Executive Director and CEO Courtney Pledger said. “From their humble beginnings to their lasting influence, their statues stand as a tribute to the pivotal roles they played in shaping American culture and society.”

The National Statuary Hall Collection consists of 100 statues donated by each of the 50 states to honor notable people in the state’s history. Each state contributes two statues. National Statuary Hall displays 35 of the statues with others placed in the Crypt, the Hall of Columns and the Capitol Visitor Center.
