Property Taxes Due

Friendly reminder if you live in NWA. 2021 personal property and real estate taxes are due. Payment must be postmarked by Monday, October 17 to avoid late payment penalties and interest.

Many have real estate taxes paid through their mortgage, but most of us must pay personal property taxes on vehicles, trailers, business equipment/inventory, etc.

Please make sure you’ve paid.

If you’ve owned your home for very long, it’s probably increased in value more than you may realize. Use that to your advantage! If you put less than 20% down on the purchase, you’re probably paying Private Mortgage Insurance (PMI) as part of your monthly mortgage payment.

If the balance of your mortgage is now less than 80% of the home’s current value, consider calling your mortgage company about removing PMI to reduce your monthly payment.

If you're a client, you've worked with Sam, our office manager. Her parents live in Rockport, TX where the eye of Hurricane Harvey made landfall. They, like so many others, have lost everything...their mobile home, a car, and all personal belongings except a pickup and the 7 days of clothes they packed when they evacuated. Talked with an elderly client in Georgia this morning that applied for a mystery shopper position and was accepted. The first assignment was to cash a $4,900 check they FedEx'd him and deposit $4,600 into a Bank of America account. The client was instructed to rate the bank on customer service, cleanliness of facilities, etc...which he did.

The $4,900 check was fraudulent. The client has had to borrow $5,000 from a credit card to reimburse the bank for the fraudulent check. Wanted to post this because it's a bit more clever way of defrauding. Please visit with elderly friends and family about money schemes like this.
