The Brittain Law Firm

The Brittain Law Firm Charles Brittain and his staff have served the legal needs of Cumberland County NC for more than a decade.

With a new location in downtown Fayetteville NC, the Brittain Law Firm is dedicated to helping those who need help the most. Next to going in to the dentist for a root canal, most folks think the worst way to spend an afternoon is in a lawyer's office. I understand and have to say that given some of the attorneys that I have met, I would agree. My goal is to create an atmophere that is as comforta

ble and inviting as possible. While I cannot administer pain deadening drugs, I can promise an open door, a listening ear, a compassionate heart and a straight-forward response to your legal problems.

For happily the government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction – to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens.” — George Washington

The Brittain Law Firm is closed today in honor of the life and memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. I hope everyone has a joyous day of reflection on the messages of this great man. As Dr. King wrote in 1958, "Evil may so shape events that Caesar will occupy a palace and Christ a cross, but that same Christ arose and split history into A.D. and B.C., so that the life of Caesar must be dated by his name. Yes, 'the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.' There is something in the universe which justifies William Cullen Bryant in saying, 'Truth crushed to earth will rise again.'" Words certainly no less true or needed today than they were when written.

This has become something of a Christmas Tradition, but every year, I post this recording from NPR of storyteller John Henry Faulk's Christmas Story. I first heard this several years ago while rushing around on Christmas Eve to get all my shopping done and it really spoke to me of the true meaning of Christmas. It is also a reminder of how blessed we truly are and serves as a reminder of all that is important about the holiday season. I encourage you to click the link and then hit Listen. I hope it brings you joy and peace as we wrap up another Christmas. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from The Brittain Law Firm.

Got the old signs hung up in the new office. Bringing the spirit of the little office in Eastover across the River into town. Looks good. Thanks to King Signs who made the signs back 10 years ago and agreed to come over and hang them for us. Also thanks to my Dad who bought the big sign for me 10 years ago and thanks to Rhonda Hagan and Von Tuton who got me the little sign when we first opened those many years ago.

It has been a great week+ getting settled into our new office at 427 Franklin Street in downtown Fayetteville. Folks are finding us, and there hasn't been too much chaos with the transition. Katrina asked me last night if I missed the little office in Eastover. I have to admit that while I love our new office and all the space that I will always miss my little Eastover office. When I did my last walk through before turning in the keys, I thought of all the people who had come in to see us for help over the past years plus all the weekends and evenings spent working on cases (not to mention working with the kids on the occasional school project as well as helping Katrina copy materials for her classroom). It was definitely a bittersweet moment.

The first questions people always ask when I tell them about our new location is: "Why did you move?" Rest assured, it was not for lack of business. From day one, we were embraced by the Eastover community and folks from that side of the river always expressed how happy they were to have our law firm as a resource they could use without having to come into town. Our decision to move simply came down to a need for more space. As I took on more cases both as a guardian and as a VA fiduciary (more on that in a later post), we simply did not have room for all our files plus workspace for staff. Then the question is why did we not just find another bigger space on our side of the river, and unfortunately, there just isn't that much rental space appropriate for a business in the area that wouldn't require substantial costly upfit to meet our needs. So, it just made sense when a location came available that met our space needs and did not require any upfit and also came with extra office furniture we could use (which was a real plus). The real thing that sealed it was the close proximity to the courthouse. While I did not mind the drive and it only took me about 20 minutes to get to Court (give or take), it is nice to be right down the street and only about a minute or two away by car even with the train.

In closing, my ongoing thanks to the Eastover community and all the communities east of the Cape Fear in Cumberland County for ten great years. I hope you will venture into town to find us now that we are in Fayetteville. Our door is always open, and I will help in any way I can. See you around.

PS: If anyone is looking for a great little office with lots of memories, please message me and I can get you the contact info for the owner of our former location. I enjoyed the experience and hope someone else benefits from the space soon.

We are pleased to announce the opening of our new office at 427 Franklin Street, Fayetteville, NC in downtown Fayetteville. This has been a bittersweet experience as I did dearly love my little office in Eastover, but after 10 years and with our continued blessings, we were busting at the seams and simply needed more space. I have such treasured memories of my time in Eastover and I so appreciate how that community opened its arms and embraced us while we were there. I hope folks will come out and see us in our new location in the historic M&O Chevrolet Building. I will try and post more about the move and the services we will continue to offer in the days ahead. Until then, come on by and see us. We would love to show you around!
