IMPORTANT NOTICE: "MISSED JURY DUTY" SCAM

The St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department has received multiple reports of a “Missed Jury Duty” scam targeting unsuspecting individuals. This scam aims to scare you into paying money under false pretenses.

How the scam works: You might receive an urgent call, text, or email claiming you’ve missed jury duty, and that a warrant for your arrest has been issued. The scammers, posing as Deputies or Court Officials, demand immediate payment to resolve the issue. However, this is a SCAM, and no legitimate court operates this way.

Recognizing the scam:

-Courts never request payment over the phone. Legitimate government agencies do not ask for fines or fees in this manner.

-Scammers often demand payment through gift cards, payment apps, cryptocurrency, or wire services like Western Union or MoneyGram.

-Courts do not ask for sensitive information, such as your Social Security number or birthdate, over the phone.

What to do if you encounter this scam:

-Do not respond to calls, texts, or emails claiming you’ve missed jury duty.

-Never share personal information or send money.

-Verify your jury duty status directly with the court via a known, official contact number or the court’s website.
