Generative AI is expanding what is possible in document review, but selecting the right workflow requires more than choosing the newest technology.

In the latest installment of our eDiscovery Crash Course, Rachel Fernandez explains how AI classification differs from traditional TAR, which matters are best suited for it, and what teams should consider around cost, prompt design, validation, and defensibility. She also explores how AI classification workflows can be implemented across Relativity and Everlaw, either independently or alongside CAL.

Read the full article to learn how thoughtful scoping and workflow design can help legal teams use AI more effectively while maintaining control over cost and process.

💡 The right review strategy can significantly improve efficiency without compromising defensibility.

In this case study, we walk through how Sandline helped an Am Law 100 firm streamline review for an employment dispute involving more than 87,000 documents. Through a combination of analytics, Continuous Active Learning (CAL), email threading, elusion testing, and targeted human review, the manual review population was reduced by 42.2%.

✨ Employee Spotlight: Thomas Maar ✨

This week our spotlight is on Tom Maar, Global IT Director. Tom is UK based and has been a driving force behind Sandline's technical operations. On what he loves most about working here: "The people—everyone has treated me well, helped me out when I've needed it, and been genuinely appreciative of the work we do in IT. The company is open to modern technologies, which means we're constantly learning new things." What makes Tom stand out is his commitment to solving problems fast. He's the kind of leader who drops everything when a client needs something resolved urgently. That's when IT work feels most rewarding knowing you've helped your team succeed and made a client's day smoother.

Away from the office, Tom balances family life with his wife and five children with his own passion for motorcycle rides through country lanes.
Here's what might surprise you: beneath the Global IT Director is a skilled mechanic and woodworking enthusiast. Tom rebuilds engines himself and even built a full outdoor bar from scratch in his garden. He was born and raised in Brazil before landing in the UK.

Great to have you leading our tech forward, Tom!

🟢 eDiscovery Crash Course: A Practical Guide for Modern Litigators🟢

Whether you're a seasoned Am Law 100 litigator managing complex, multinational matters or a boutique attorney handling your first large-scale document review, eDiscovery is always nuanced. Attorneys and legal teams bring varying levels of eDiscovery experience to every matter, and not every firm has dedicated in-house eDiscovery resources.

That's where Sandline comes in.

At Sandline Global, we support legal teams of all sizes—from sophisticated Am Law firms and Fortune 500 legal departments to midsize and boutique litigation practices. We understand that every matter, every client, and every legal team has different needs. Our role is to provide the expertise, technology, and guidance necessary to help clients navigate eDiscovery confidently, efficiently, and defensibly.

To help demystify the process, we're launching our three-part eDiscovery Crash Course series. Throughout the series, we'll break down key stages of the eDiscovery lifecycle, share practical considerations, and highlight common pitfalls that can impact costs, timelines, and defensibility.

💡 Part 1: Scope First: Why Early Case Assessment Sets the Stage for a Successful Project explores one of the most important—and often overlooked—steps in eDiscovery. Effective early case assessment lays the groundwork for defensible collections, targeted review strategies, realistic budgets, and better outcomes throughout the life of a matter.

Head over to our blog to read Part 1 and learn why investing time upfront can save significant time, cost, and risk later in the process. ➡️

Most corporate legal departments are unknowingly paying hosting costs for the same data multiple times.

A custodian appears in an employment matter, a regulatory inquiry, and a commercial dispute. Different law firms engage different eDiscovery vendors. The same data gets collected, processed, hosted, and reviewed again and again.

The result? Higher costs, fragmented workflows, lost work product, and increased security risk.

Forward-thinking in-house legal teams are taking a different approach: building direct relationships with trusted eDiscovery providers and centralizing litigation and investigations data.

The benefits can be substantial:

✅ Reuse collected data across matters

✅ Preserve and leverage prior review decisions

✅ Accelerate future reviews with portable TAR models

✅ Reduce hosting costs through shared datasets

✅ Simplify vendor management and budgeting

✅ Strengthen security and defensibility

In our latest article, written by Sandline's CRO, Cara Lemire, we explore why more corporate legal departments are moving toward a centralized eDiscovery strategy, and how it can help reduce spend while improving efficiency and control.

✨ Employee Spotlight: Alexandra Berkland✨

We took our spotlight series abroad to one of our Project Manager’s in Germany, Alexandra Berkland.

💭 On life at Sandline: "It's so refreshing because everyone here is genuinely kind and incredibly talented. I learn so much from the people around me, I feel supported, and the friendly atmosphere is something I notice every day."

Recently, she took on a complex set of client search terms — long and tricky to break apart. She normalized them carefully, preserving the integrity of what the client set out to achieve, and built reporting that was clear, professional, and easy on the eyes. 📊

A few surprises? Alexandra is a licensed attorney, former bartender, and certified yoga instructor — and was once shortlisted for a one-way ticket to Mars. 🚀 Outside of work, she's with her husband and twin toddlers, exploring new cities and villages, hiking, reading fantasy novels, and cooking. A true foodie, she loves a farmer's market, a good run or yoga session, and any excuse to travel. 🌍

Glad to have you, Alexandra! 🙌

✨ Employee Spotlight ✨

Some people wait for the right moment to try something new — Kristopher Jackson just jumps in.

Outside of work, Kris is all about the people and passions that keep life full: quality time with loved ones, a deep love of music, and staying active with just about any sport you can name — golf, basketball, pickleball, you name it.

And here's a fun one that might surprise you: music runs deep in the family. Kris's father was the lead singer of Surface, the iconic R&B group behind hits like "The First Time" and "Shower Me with Your Love." 🎵 Growing up surrounded by that legacy is a big part of who Kris is today.
