Today, July 4, 2026, the United States marks 250 years since its independence. And in the middle of the celebration, we can also recognize a deep truth: this country has been built, sustained, and enriched by immigrants.
For generations, families have come here seeking safety, work, freedom, and a better life for their children. Mexican, Salvadoran, Guatemalan, Honduran, Dominican, Colombian, Venezuelan, Peruvian, Cuban, and many other communities have planted roots here with dignity and hard work.
Our communities have worked the land, built homes and cities, cared for children and elders, opened businesses, served food, taught in schools, created art, defended rights, and helped entire communities thrive. America cannot be understood without the strength of immigrants.
Celebrating the Fourth of July can also be a moment to honor freedom, hope, and the fuller history of this country: a nation built on land that already belonged to Indigenous peoples, and one that continues to grow because of millions of people who came here searching for a better future.
No person should be treated as less human for crossing a border to survive, protect their family, or build a life with dignity.
No one is illegal on stolen land.
