Trump has promised oil execs he will gut environmental laws. We must be afraid- very afraid and act accordingly. Let's be alert out here! election time concerns from Heather Cox Richardson:

"According to Josh Dawsey and Maxine Joselow of the Washington Post, last month at Mar-a-Lago, Trump told about two dozen top oil executives that if they gave him $1 billion to get reelected, he would immediately reverse the environmental regulations the Biden-Harris administration has put into place and stop any new ones. A $1 billion gift would be a “deal,” according to Trump, because the tax cuts he plans to enact and the regulatory cuts would be worth far more than that. Since then, Ben Lefebvre wrote yesterday in Politico, oil executives have been drawing up executive orders that Trump can sign as soon as he takes office. "

A combination of drought and sea-level rise has sent a wedge of saltwater moving up the river.

Any suggestions for how we counter these billions of dollars in donations that are not even taxed first? Gerrymandering, huge donations, etc show what one sided selfishness and hunger for power over other people does to our society. Rich self servers have taken over our government and we have to get it back. Again I truly ask, does anyone have any good ideas to get this speechful money out of our government? To get sense making to rule the day or even to get regular people to remember what rule of law means to freedom- especially freedom from harm of others? Try not to hate the haters while we figure this out.

Billionaire Charles Koch, who will turn 88 on November 1, is funneling his wealth into two secretive organizations that can continue his right-wing political advocacy for years. Koch structured more than $5 billion in donations to exploit a loophole to allow him to avoid paying capital gains or gift...

The country’s experience in how to react to cyberattacks provides lessons for avoiding the kind of panic that Russia seeks.

Here is a poem I wrote today just for fun.

When We Get There

Penni Livingston

The gentle rains fall often
for a while

These tears flowing to flowers
make us smile

Never again to hear the furnace
kick in

The cold will vanish like
an unworthy sin

Snow and sleet and whipping winds
that freeze

Are now replaced by an
occasional breeze

The earth the only
blower of air,

As we traipse in the jungle
without a care;

The views of mighty oaks
and deer

Exchanged for toucans and monkeys
here

The frolicking foxes still live
in my mind

Sharing space with nature’s new beauty
I find

Glad for the photos of nature
I’ll miss

While shifting to paradise and
retirement bliss

After some intense joint ventures
in learning

We tackle new challenges
of our yearning

Money and math and a new language
to boot

Communicating as Ticos should be
a hoot

Much to do to plan
and prepare

while our progeny begs us
please beware!

Fear freezes the body’s liquid
of life

as Doubt burns the Mind’s kindling
with made up strife

One world in accord when we go
where we want

Continuing our story in
our own font

All real distance is in the
perceiver’s head

Limiting the supply of our
daily bread

Grace for today comes
wherever we are

Embracing Love’s essence
near and far

Makes no sense to get
all finicky

Closeness of heart is beyond
proximity

Wherever we go we expect
to thrive

Feel free to visit us while we
are still alive.

Here is the book pitch I made today. Do you like it?

My name is Penni Livingston.

My book is titled “Fire on Main Street: How Big Insurance is hijacking the civil justice system.”

As a trial lawyer for over 3 decades, I encountered a case that I resisted to bring to the Courts and that ultimately caused me to not want to be a lawyer anymore.

By the time the jury rendered its verdict, I knew I had uncovered the most significant sin of my career- institutionalized corruption in the computer modeling used to determine pay outs on burnt building claims by State Farm. I literally learned about this universal cheating in the models at trial, not before hand, due to the litigation tactics by SF and their attorneys that were even more dishonest and outrageous than the tilted computer modeling.

I bring the reader the compelling unfoldment of testimony and exhibits exposing the conduct and showing its effects on the outcome. Fair outcomes require good facts and application of law but also fair tactics. The procedural rules, discovery rules, are actually great but big Insurance does not comply. In fact, I show how SF's witnesses actually outright lie to win.

After giving the reader the experience of being at trial and behind the scenes, I give suggestions for reform including a discussion about mentoring and monitoring judges who are tasked with enforcement of the rules and law. Since these dodging insurance industry tactics remain the norm, this book is needed. Fortunately transcripts remember what was said perfectly and they don’t lie.

The Genre is Legal Thriller. Sub genre is insurance issues. The audience is lawyers, judges, law students, legislators, people who love legal issues and cases, people who care about justice, and people who want to understand how insurance litigation works.

Word count is 75,000 words.

My motive is to bring forth the truth to a wider audience as information is power and we must curb the power of this corrupt industry that is hijacking our ability to get justice by its effective tactics at hiding the truth.

This is a story about an industry created to pool risks that now risks destroying the very fabric of justice in America through outrageous conduct proven by evidence presented and exposed in this case- in the public record.

My platform includes a website with the entire public record available from pleadings and court orders to transcripts of hearing and includes the entire transcript of trial.

Comparable books are A Civil Action by Jonathan Harr. Luck is a Talent by Gary V. Johnson, and Redeeming Justice by Jarrett Adams.

It's been a while since I posted. Book writing is coming along pretty slow. Here is a poignant short article that reminds us what lies from corporations do. In my experience, State Farm has lied in a case I will write about for you to decide for yourself. In the meantime, here is an article.

About Fire on Mainstreet

Penni Livingston is a native of Illinois who lives in the MetroEast area in a forest filled with large oak trees and a variety of animals. She grew up in northern Illinois in a chilling shadow of Chicago in a time when girls were not allowed to wear pants to school, no matter the temperature.
