If your ex is making coparenting difficult, the issue is not just that they are frustrating you. The real issue is whether their behavior is having a negative impact on your child.

That is why documentation matters.

Do not just say coparenting is “hard” or that the other parent is “impossible.” Start documenting exactly how the behavior is affecting your child. Is your child showing stress, anxiety, confusion, behavioral changes, school issues, missed activities, disrupted routines, or emotional fallout after exchanges or repeated conflict? Those details matter.

You also need to show that this is a pattern, not just an occasional disagreement or every now and then frustration. Courts know coparenting is not always smooth. A bad exchange here and there is usually not enough. What matters is repeated conduct over time: ongoing interference, repeated violations of court orders, constant disruption, or behavior that creates instability in the child’s life.

And while you are doing all of that, keep your cool.

Do not match chaos with chaos. Do not send the angry text. Do not turn every conflict into a blowup. The parent who stays calm, stays consistent, and keeps the focus on the child is usually in a much stronger position than the parent who is reacting emotionally every time things go sideways.

Document the impact. Show the pattern. Stay calm. That is how you build credibility, and credibility matters in custody cases. 💜

Family court doesn’t “see the truth.” It rules on what you can prove.

If it’s not documented, it’s not real to the court, no matter how obvious it feels to you.

Judges decide custody, support, and outcomes off records: timelines, messages, filings, patterns, credibility.

So if you’re relying on fairness or assuming your story will speak for itself, you’re handing leverage to the person building the evidence first.

Being justified doesn’t win divorces. Being prepared does.
