There are 700,000 Kentuckians, including more than 200,000 children, who struggle with hunger. 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 5 children in Kentucky lack consistent access to enough food for a healthy, active lifestyle. To alleviate their hunger, many of our fellow Kentuckians receive assistance from local food banks. Among these citizens:
•67 percent had to choose between paying for utilities and paying for food, with 32 percent reporting making this choice every month.
•91 percent purchased the cheapest food available, even if they knew it wasn’t the healthiest option, in an effort to provide enough food for their household.
•65 percent of these households have at least one member who suffers from high blood pressure; 41 percent have someone who struggles with diabetes.
Deitz Shields & Freeburger has joined other law firms in the “Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy” a hunger relief campaign which is a collaborative effort between the office of Kentucky Attorney General, the Kentucky Secretary of State, the Kentucky Bar Association and the Kentucky Association of Food Banks. Wish us luck as we try to share our good fortune with others.
