Did you miss the lively GBI event yesterday? Don't worry, we have another one tomorrow! Tomorrow we will have the second part of our post-lumber salvaging series. We will hear from Tim Ingalsbee, director of Firefighters United for Safety, Ethics, and Ecology, about the other side of the issue. He will talk about the environmental and social consequences of post-fire salvaging. The event will occur tomorrow, 11/19, in room 110 and on Zoom!

The hike and beach picnic for this Saturday are on! 57 and partly sunny with a light wind are predicted for Heceta Head lighthouse. We hope to see you on the beach at noon for a bring-your-own-lunch picnic. Also, we encourage you to detour to the Sweet Creek Falls trail on either your way there or back. It's a mostly easy 3-mile hike with some beautiful waterfalls. Parking at the beach is $5/car. Parking at the trailhead is free but limited.

GBI hopes to see you Saturday!

As beautiful as Eugene is, do you want to get out and see more of this great state? Join GBI on Saturday, October 9, at noon for a picnic at the Heceta Head lighthouse beach north of Florence. This is a large beach with many caves and tidepools to explore when the tide is low. It's a short (but a bit steep) walk up to the lighthouse and the view on a clear day is spectacular!

On your way to or from the picnic, we encourage you to take a side trip near Mapleton to the Sweet Creek Falls trailhead. This is a 3-mile, mostly easy hike with multiple waterfalls.

The Oregon coast is often chilly and windy, so dress appropriately and bring your sunscreen. (We will keep an eye on the forecast and let you know what to expect that day or if we need to cancel.) There is ample parking at the beach, but a fee of $5/car. Parking at the Sweet Creek trailhead is free but limited. For these reasons, we encourage carpooling.
