Nationally, about one in three drivers is either uninsured or carries too little coverage to pay for a real injury. In California, roughly 1 in 5 drivers has no insurance at all. Idaho's uninsured rate is lower, but plenty of drivers there carry only the state minimum. The person who hits you may not be able to pay for what they did. That's why your own coverage matters.
