We became aware shortly after 9 am this morning that our phone system was down. It is now back up and running. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused over the last hour.

Attorney Morton secured an order returning a child to its mother after nearly seven years of separation this morning. We are so proud to have served this family, and wish the family wonderful celebrations in their reunification. So many families suffer from separation due to child protective services policies, and we are glad to help mend at least one family today.

A reminder that the office is closed tomorrow, October 9, in honor of Indigenous People's Day. While we try to do what we can to honor all tribes, we make special note of the Susquehannok, whose land our office sits, and who were unfortunately massacred in 1763. While nothing can make right the horrific crimes against the first peoples of our nation, we acknowledge the only way forward is to listen to those who are still here.

Very excited to announce that Attorney Morton won kinship guardianship for a foster mother today, providing the family with stability, permanency, and continued healthy relationships without severing any biological family ties. This office could not be more excited for the family, and thankful that this office was chosen to help guide the family through to this result.

Today we received the good news that Attorney Morton secured victory for a client at a fair hearing held earlier this summer. The administrative law judge overturned the decision of Chemung County DSS, finding there was no credible evidence of neglect. If you are investigated and you believe improperly found to have neglected a child, it is not the end. There is an appeal process and an attorney can help you seek removal of that report from your record.

Today I received an order of temporary custody for a client based on extreme and frankly disturbing alienation by the other parent. The case is not over but it's important to celebrate the small victories too - in this case that a child was finally heard despite the active attempts by the custodial parent to silence the child and sever the relationship between the child and the other parent. Congratulations go to the client and family who now get a breath before trial continues.
