We have big news...
We changed our name!
We are very excited to announce that we, Bill and Ryan Rogers, are assuming operations as owners and Cathy Hudson, who took a chance on our little family and now has become like family to us, will continue to remain on board teaching us along the way and mentoring us with her extensive knowledge. We are changing the name from Myrtle Woods Farm to Morningside Farm, effective immediately.
Cathy wanted to write her own note to all of you regarding the transition of ownership and thinking of her time here as Myrtle Woods before this chapter is formally closed.
A Fond Adieu to Myrtle Woods Farm and a Warm Hearted Welcome to Morningside Farm
In 2010, Tiff and Cathy Hudson purchased the land that was to become Myrtle Woods Farm. The sole purpose in that purchase was to place a perpetual conservation easement on the property to help ensure the integrity of the core of the Lawyers Hill Historic District. However, the land had additional ideas and enticed others to participate!
The first year a small pumpkin patch was planted and a wonderful family, the Turners moved in. Van Wensil offered to bring her decades of organic gardening experience to help expand the garden and with her expertise and labor (the farm wouldn’t have happened without you, Van), and, along with Dan Wecker, (I am ever grateful for your support, Dan) owner of the Elkridge Furnace Inn offering to buy what we produced, and to you, the community that grew around the farm that helped out, encouraged us and believed in us, the large field turned into a farm. The next few years had us fencing the field, building the soil, erecting the tunnels and perfecting our techniques (well at least making them better). We had to say goodbye to the Turners as Lauren’s Garden Service needed a bigger place, and then got to welcome Patrick Meagher and his knowledge and efforts for a few years.
Three years ago the farm was blessed with the arrival of the Rogers Family, who made the journey from California to Elkridge to try out a new life as farmers. They quickly learned “the ropes” and have worked hard to not only increase the amount grown, but also to grow the farm as an important part of the Elkridge community. They have been wonderful to work with and get to know and I am excited to announce that as of this Tuesday, March 14, 2023 that the Rogers have purchased the farm and the property and will take over its management. The name of the farm will change to Morningside Farm, but otherwise, it will continue to be run with the same love of the land and desire to be an important part of the community that it has been for the last decade.
I will still be an occasional participant at Morningside Farm, but this change will allow my body to do things more appropriate to its age! I hope you all will give Bill, Ryan and their children Reagan and Henry, all the love and support that you have given to me over the years. And here’s to the next chapter!
