Designed for lawyers, law students, veterans, policymakers and other service professionals, this conference provides a forum for discussion of critical legal issues facing veterans.

The conference includes:

📌 Veterans Benefits 101 training and a practical 201 training for more seasoned practitioners

📌 Training for non-attorney veterans interested in serving as mentors for the Veterans Treatment Docket

📌 Expert panels on The Irregular Application of the Presumption of Regularity and National Security and the Rule of Law

📌 Free breakfast and lunch for in-person participants

Our keynote speaker is author, Six Triple Eight Congressional Gold Medal Champion, and retired U.S. Army Colonel Edna W. Cummings, who will be interviewed by Dean LaVonda Reed, Dean of the University of Baltimore School of Law. Dean Reed will ask Colonel Cummings about her new book, "A Soldier’s Life," and discuss her career as a soldier and champion of civil rights.

This event is in-person, but virtual options are available for the two afternoon panel discussions.

Honored to be attending the annual Making the Right Moves conference with MSJDN, the Military Spouse JD Network, today in DC. Military spouses face unique challenges with career development, and those challenges are compounded in the legal field with state-specific bar admissions. Sitting in this room, I am struck by the breadth of legal knowledge, experience, and expertise within our group. I may be in retired milspouse status now, but this will always be my tribe.

This Constitution Day (yes, this is a thing), I encourage everyone to take the sage advice of my constitutional law professor from 2000: take the time to sit down with the Constitution and actually read it, perhaps by the fire with a glass of wine. Beware the pundits and embrace government for the people, by the people - read for yourself.

The only certainty in the law is that everything is subject to change. I’m spending a few days in beautiful Ocean City, MD for this year’s Legal Summit immersed in legal developments. Continuing legal education isn’t a requirement in MD, but it is a requirement for me and my commitment to provide the best service I can to every one of my clients.

I had the opportunity to speak to my congresswoman today, bringing awareness to veterans affairs issues for my clients and all veterans. Contact your representatives and demand that the VA be fully funded.

Many attendees expressed worries about the stated federal goal of eliminating government inefficiencies, and how those changes affect veterans services.

Mondays can be a real bear. See below. Just remember to take breaks for snacks and naps, and try to avoid any “reply all” mishaps. Save that for Tuesday.

In addition to maintaining a law practice, I am the PTA President for my son’s school, Elkridge Elementary School. The PTA is hosting a readathon fundraiser. Students are asking for donations as they complete daily reading challenges, and are tracking their minutes for special rewards from their teachers. The winning class in donations gets to silly string the principal 😆

Right now, my boy is juggling three different books- Great Battles for Boys, Civil War Battles; I Survived the Revolutionary War (graphic novel); and Zeus the Mighty: the Maze of the Menacing Minotaur. More reading + fundraiser where I don’t have to buy junk = good all around. Please consider a donation to support him and the PTA!
