T- 32 hours. Only 32 ;hours until the polls close in West Virginia! Tomorrow, if you haven't already, it is so important to GO VOTE.
I have told myself I will take the high road during this campaign, and I have stayed true to that. I believe when others spend their time, effort, and money to talk negatively about their opponent, it says more about the one talking than the one they are talking about. I can't imagine campaigning negatively about an opponent - unless I didn't have anything positive to speak of about myself.
Then, the "non-advertising," advertising goes like this - Someone who appears to be completely separate from the campaign posts something ugly about me. A search of their friends list shows how they may be connected to a candidate. I will spare the remainder of the method I saw over the weekend. This kind of stuff doesn't warrant serious consideration.
For my advertisement here, I won't bore you (now, anyway) with all the advertisements that are still floating out there for your attention...but please understand this: Saying you WILL be fair, and having DEMONSTRATED being fair, under the pressure of the position and the people, are totally different things. I have DEMONSTRATED fairness and impartiality, repeatedly, in excess of eleven years. The others have not. They haven't had an opportunity to. The three of them, combined, have zero judicial experience.
I also have more than an eleven-year history of showing indifference to politics and/or political pressure in my courtroom and in my decisions. To be fair, I don't even remember that issue ever coming up as an "issue" in my court/courtroom/decisions. I couldn't give a hoot what political party a litigant or a lawyer belongs to, or doesn't belong to. It's completely irrelevant. Why would I care whether someone is an Independent, Democrat, Republican, Green Party, etc.?
The inconsistent posturing is interesting to see, though. I don't understand when an opponent appears to be the first and loudest to state a political affiliation on his advertisements, and then repeatedly states he will, "take the politics out of the courtroom." What? I don't get that. Much of what this person publishes shouts political affiliation, and then they campaign to end the political nonsense? It may be a simplistic way of thinking, but in my opinion, the first way to keep politics out of a courtroom is to keep them off of your advertisements.
Remember to go vote tomorrow! And today, enjoy it! It's sunny, 67 degrees, with a ZERO chance of rain in Elkins. Perfect day to make it a great one! :)
