Best wishes for a warm and blessed Thanksgiving. For my family law people - remember to keep looking at the holidays from the perspective of your child. Too often we adults get wrapped up in our adult drama and forget to look at everything from the point of view of the child. How does the child see your actions? Remember, that child views themselves as one-half you and one-half the other parent, so try to be kind to the other half of your child.

For my injury clients - remember that the insurance company is NOT your friend. DO NOT talk to anyone in the insurance business after an accident until you have talked to an attorney. The only thing that an insurance company cares about it making more money for their shareholders and how they can cheat you to do so.

Now to consult ChatGPT to figure out the best way to carve up that turkey! :)

FAMILY LAW HORRORS - I had a prospective client come to talk to me asking for help. In an effort to save money on their agreed uncontested divorce. This person had gotten a friend to use ChatGPT to download a divorce decree for the couple. Believing that degree had disposed of all of their property appropriately, they went to court and presented that to the judge who is not there to give legal advice. Therefore the judge signed the decree and pronounced the couple divorced. Although divorced, a couple remained on friendly terms. Fast-forward to today and one of the parties has passed away.  Much to the surprise of my would be client, the investment property that she thought she owned is going to be inherited by her ex-spouse’s new wife. She had trusted the ChatGPT divorce decree, and it let her down. You should have seen how big her eyes got when I talked about her ex-husband‘s retirement account that she missed out on as well.

 Now the new spouse, who was more than 20 years younger, is guaranteed a pretty good life if she manages the money well. 

PLEASE learn the lesson! At the very least, spend the money for a consultation with a Family Law Lawyer before you sign off on that ChatGPT divorce degree. Better yet, spend a little money now and save yourself tens of thousands of dollars later!
