Today is a fitting day to report that yesterday was a great day - at the El Paso County Courthouse. About seven years ago a female employee of El Paso County spoke out against sexual harassment and discrimination in the workplace, and as a result, she was fired. Daniela Labinoti Law and I presented her case to a jury that found El Paso County liable for violating our client's rights as an employee to oppose sexual harassment and discrimination, including $500,000 for emotional distress in the past and $250,000 in the future (but these amounts will be drastically cut by Texas law) on top of $203,000 for backpay and additional amounts to be determined for attorney fees and court costs.
