Seattle's minimum wage workers are in line for a big raise, even as the blue city faces a business exodus.

During the first half of 2025, 450 restaurants closed, while job postings across the metro area fell 35% between February 2020 and October 2025. Downtown office vacancy also reached 35.6% in late 2025.

Supporters say Seattle’s high cost of living requires higher wages and that better pay can improve worker retention. Critics and some business owners point to rising labor costs as one of several pressures affecting operations.
