A PERSONAL NOTE FROM BRIAN KENNEDY
I have never been prouder of a group of people in my life. This collection of people who banded together on this adventure as the “Green Machine” to try and make El Paso a better place never showed fear of the unknown and never took a step back. The commitment and caring for this city and its future was uplifting.
An extraordinary acknowledgment to my wife Dennece Knight. As always, she supported me in my crazy idea. When I said I wanted to run for mayor she put her heart and soul into the campaign. She, once again, taught me what true love looks like and how to commit for someone else. She makes me want to be a better person every day. I have spent a lot of my life surrounded by music. Many times I find what I found what I want to say in a song. When I stand in awe of her, I remember a Willie Nelson song” You taught me precious secrets of a truth withholding nothing.” Personally, I would recite the lyric “I know your image of me is what I hope to be” and “I love you in a place where there’s no space and time”. Dennece, you are the best of us.
To our son Shane, thank you for stepping into the law firm and taking over when I stepped away to commit myself to this journey. Incredibly, you made an above and beyond commitment to the firm and the campaign. We love you so much.
To the voters who placed their trust and belief in my vision of El Paso, I will repeat what I said to the campaign team when we discovered I would not be the next mayor of the city of El Paso. “We want the new Mayor to have the most wonderful four-year term that he can have because the city needs it. Do not allow this to lessen your commitment to this city; it is incredibly important in a very tough time that is about to hit El Paso that we continue to move forward, we hold our government accountable, but we back our government and keep moving forward.” Thank you for your faith and trust.
Finally, to District 1, it has been my honor to represent you for the past two years. We accomplished much and have plans in place to accomplish even more. Thank you for giving me the privilege of representing you.
On a personal basis I continue to find my solace by immersing myself in music to calm my soul. If you have a chance, listen to Andra Day’s song “Stand for Something”. It says “It all means nothing if you don’t stand up for something and I stand up for you”
