Did you know that there is a difference between paralegals and licensed legal document preparers?
Just because someone is a paralegal does not mean that they are able to draft documents. Paralegals must work under the supervision of an attorney and are not allowed to provide their services without an attorney being involved.
Legal document preparers are licensed by the Supreme Court of Arizona to draft legal documents without the supervision of an attorney. LDPs can work independently and provide document drafting for pro pers.
Both paralegals and LDPs are unable to provide legal advice or represent in court.
Be wary of someone who says that they are a paralegal and can draft your documents. Make sure whoever you use to prepare your documents is licensed and insured. Don’t be afraid to ask someone to clarify if they are a paralegal or a licensed legal document preparer.
Remember, only licensed legal document preparers can prepare documents without the supervision of an attorney.
