Listening to music while being placed on hold is a scenario many of us are all too familiar with. But did you know some insurance companies are listening to you while you’re waiting for an operator to answer?

You should be very careful when you are speaking with the an insurance company after receiving an initial notice that the call may be recorded for quality and training purposes.

The call is definitely being recorded. And, when it comes to insurance claims, it’s not just training purposes that the recording is used for.

Insurance companies want to hear what you are saying while on hold to verify your story. They also use your recording to gather additional details about what happened or the injuries you sustained.

Protect yourself, your claim, and your privacy by muting your phone while you’re on hold.

Auto safety has come a long way in the last few decades, and one of the most effective innovations is the crumple zone. Also known as a crush zone, crumple zones are areas of a vehicle that are designed to deform and crumple in a collision.

Crumple zones accomplish two safety goals. They reduce the initial force of the crash, and they redistribute the force before it reaches the vehicle's occupants.

In short, the crumple keeps you safer.

If you have been harmed in a car accident, you may not know that you are expected to pay for your medical bills, even if your injuries were caused by another person’s negligence.

If your claim is successful, you will not be paid until the legal process concludes. Many medical providers do not want to wait to be paid for their treatment though. That is why it is important to understand your options to help manage your medical bills while your claim is still pending.

1. PIP Insurance - The first option you have, and the first you must use, is your Personal Injury Protection insurance (PIP). PIP is an optional lawyer of coverage on your own auto insurance policy. PIP will pay your medical expenses regardless of who is at fault in an accident without copays or deductibles up to your coverage limit.

2. Medical Insurance - If you have health insurance, you can use that insurance coverage to pay for medical costs while you wait for an official settlement in your case. Your health insurance provider will pay up to your policy limits, but you will still be responsible for any deductibles or copays as part of your policy.

3. Letter of Promise/Lien - Some healthcare providers will allow you to defer payments, but it will not be an oral agreement. Instead, you will need a formal agreement that involves signing paperwork. These letters of promise are between you and the healthcare provider – whether it is a hospital, clinic, specialist, or your family care provider. The agreement states that the provider is offering care upfront, and without payment, in return for receiving payment after your case settles in court (or during private negotiations). You agree to pay the provider in full for any outstanding medical balances once you receive your settlement when you sign this form.

If you have been hurt in an accident and are worried about how to pay your medical bills, we are here and ready to discuss your options.

Our consultations offer you the opportunity to discuss your situation and allow us to evaluate whether you have valid claim. And remember: there are no fees charged up front if you hire us. You only pay our firm if we recover compensation for you.

One of the best things about living in Seattle is how pedestrian friendly it is. The Seattle Department of Transportation even has a long-term action plan in place to make Seattle the "most walkable" city in America.

However, there are still plenty of drivers on our streets and because of that, pedestrians will frequently end up as innocent, injured victims in accidents caused by negligent motorists.

Were you in a crosswalk when an SUV decided to blow through the red light? Did a car come out of a driveway and hit you on the sidewalk?

If you were in a pedestrian accident in or around Seattle, the Washington state Northwest Women’s Injury Law is here to help.

We know how devastating an accident can be, both physically and emotionally, and we want you to have the opportunity to heal and move forward.

Falls are the third-leading cause of unintentional deaths. With snow and ice affecting the Pacific Northwest for the next several days, it's good to have a plan to stay upright. And it's an easy plan, too: Walk like a penguin.

Does it look silly to waddle down the street? Absolutely. But give it a shot — penguins, after all, have a decent amount of experience holding their own on ice and might have a thing or two to teach us.

The keys to the penguin walk are simple: Extend your arms (er, wings) out to your side, bend your knees, and shuffle side to side as you move forward (rather than taking big steps). All of this will help maintain your center of gravity in a treacherous climate — the type of environment that penguins have existed in for centuries.
