FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED FOR ROCKDALE COUNTY FIREFIGHTER KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY

📍 Conyers, Georgia

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Rockdale County firefighter Juan Antonia Smith II, who died June 12 after the fire truck he was riding in overturned while responding to a structure fire in Conyers.

A public viewing for Smith will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church Worship Center in Atlanta. Family visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers.

Smith will be laid to rest at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Stockbridge following the service.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Eastview Road and Sigman Road.

GSP said the Rockdale County Fire Department truck was responding to a structure fire when it overturned onto its passenger side while making a left turn.

Smith, who was riding in the rear of the truck, was ejected and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.

The 26-year-old firefighter’s death prompted an outpouring of support from first responders and community members across the state.

Rockdale County officials have described Smith as a dedicated public servant whose loss has been felt throughout the department and the community he served.
