Please join me in welcoming Johanna Gonzalez to Keystone Mediation!

Johanna is joining us as an intern through April while she completes her first year in the Master's of Social Work program at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame. She just graduated from Saint Mary's this past May with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Music, so she brings a strong foundation in both fields.

Johanna chose social work because she wants to bring mental health resources, counseling, and support to people who come from a background similar to her own, including Latina representation and Spanish language services that make communication easier and more comfortable for the people who need it.

Before coming to Keystone, Johanna worked as a Registered Behavior Technician, supporting clients with autism and other disabilities and getting to know their families along the way. That experience showed her just how much family relationships affect the people she was working with, and it's part of what drew her to mediation. She was curious how her background in psychology could combine with an interest in law and mediation to help families work through divorce and separation without going to court.

I'm excited to have Johanna on the team this year. She'll be learning the ropes of mediation firsthand, and I know our clients are going to benefit from her compassion and her perspective.

Welcome, Johanna!

At a dinner in Spain three years ago, a couple from Madrid asked me a question I still cannot fully answer. Why are Americans so angry?

They told us they followed American news more closely than their own and still idolized what America stood for. But when they watched us, they saw rage, and they wondered if we had forgotten what we had.

In my latest newsletter, I work through what they were really asking, why "agree to disagree" feels almost extinct, and a new program for teens I am genuinely excited about.

If your brain is still on holiday weekend mode, you're not alone. Happy (Belated) Mother's Day to all the moms!

I've already opened the same email three times and learned nothing from it. I am trying to get my taxes done a month late and my coffee cup is somehow both empty and full of regret.

Here's your friendly reminder that you don't have to crush it today! Monday doesn't have to be a sprint.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Let's ease back in together.

Did you know you don't have to fight your divorce out in court?

Mediation is an option most people never hear about. Even when you and your spouse don't agree on everything (or anything), a neutral mediator helps guide you through the major issues: parenting schedule, finances, property, and support.
You don't have to be on the same page to start. That's what the mediator is there for.
Why mediation works:

-Costs a fraction of what litigation does
-Takes weeks or months instead of years
-Keeps your private life out of the courtroom
-You decide the outcome, not a judge who doesn't know your family
-Less stress on your kids
-Makes co-parenting much easier afterward

Divorce is already hard. Fighting in court makes it harder, and a lot more expensive.
Before you file, ask about mediation. It could save you thousands of dollars and months of heartache.
