I truly have been blessed with the most wonderful and loyal clients over the years. This profession is not for the faint of heart; rarely is it the glamorous "sexy" job as portrayed in TV and movies. In fact, it can be the quite the opposite: a lot of grunt work (writing, drafting, revising, researching, revising some more), very long hours for trial preparation, ruthless opposing counsel and the occasional unfair ruling from a judge who just didn't "get it". When I get a thank-you from a client like the one below, however, it makes me glad I didn't quit along the way the times I wanted to.
This former client is a special man who sought and won custody of his three daughters in the mid-90's (not an easy feat then or even now). He was one of my first highly contested family law cases I handled on my own and away from another firm. It was a very hard fought case and wound up lasting a few years with "repeat" issues. I am not sure how much credit I can take for his girls turning out well but the fact that their dad was reflecting on the day of the youngest daughter's wedding on my legal representation from all those years ago is gratifying and humbling as well.
He writes:
"Wanted to reach out and thank you again from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and the well-being of the children when we fought to get my girls long long ago..... They have all turned out to be God loving, successful beautiful women, respectful, great wives, awesome mothers, loving sisters that are there for each other through thick and thin, great role models for their peers and give back to the community and whomever needs a helping hand..... If you would have not believed in me none of this would have been possible..... I love you for that.... My youngest just got married Saturday and I thought of you and wanted to send this message to you...
I am so blessed our paths crossed. You have been the most down to earth real lawyer I have ever known or dealt with to date.....you’re real and I thank you for that.... I just can't thank God enough for crossing our paths!"
