Interesting thing to ponder with the influx of Flock cameras in our area. One school of thought is the potential applications related to public safety, another school of thought relates to the concerns of encroachment into individuals’ Fourth Amendment protections.
Yesterday, a federal judge heard arguments in a first-of-its-kind lawsuit challenging Norfolk, Virginia’s warrantless use of more than 170 automated license plate reader cameras.
The case questions whether the government can track people’s movements without a warrant, even when they’re not suspected of a crime.
This lawsuit is part of IJ’s broader Plate Privacy Project, which is working to rein in mass license-plate surveillance and protect the Fourth Amendment nationwide.
