This Veterans Day marks the 33rd year that I have had the honor of hosting a free breakfast for those who served our nation in the military.

Please join me at Kalin’s Cafe until 9:30 (so no one misses the parade). I have lost a few of my favorite veterans over the past few years-- Brian Henderson, David Johnson, Floyd Cash and of course my Pop, William B. Harris.

We all have our own favorite veterans both living and deceased. It is the dedication of men and women like him that we remember on this day.

Please join me at Kalin’s Cafe until 9:30 (so no one misses the parade). My fav veteran, William B. Harris, passed away December 4th of last year so it is my first Veteran’s Day without him.

Pop served in the US Army fighting in Korea where he was awarded the Purple Heart. It is the dedication of men and women like him that we remember on this day.

Giving—thanks. This holiday is one of reflection, introspection and ultimately — thankfulness. I urge each of us to “see” this holiday. To “see” the person across the room or lane of traffic from you. To realize that each of us have a finite time to “be” on this earth, around our loved ones and to make a positive contribution in the lives of all we “see”. This Veteran’s Day marks the 30th year that I’ve had the honor of hosting a free breakfast for those who served our nation in the military.

Please join me at Kalin’s Café until 9:30 a.m. (so no one misses the parade). My favorite Veteran--- William B. Harris is home bound so I will be taking biscuits and gravy with 2 scrambled eggs on top (Pop's favorite) and eating with him at home. Then I'm off to Castle Ridge in Centralia where we are hosting our second annual Free Lunch for Veteran's at Stonewater's.

Pop is 91 and served in the US Army fighting in Korea where he was wounded in battle and received the Purple Heart. It is the dedication and service of men and women like him that we remember on this day. So, come on up, grab a cup of joe with your favorite G.I. then watch the parade. “Christmas is the time to say I love you.” Those of you who are teens of the 80’s remember the rocker Billy Squire belting out his own Christmas classic (cue the ear-worm and you’re welcome 😉). Those younger, google it (Merry Christmas to you as well).

As we enjoy the holidays with thoughts of our loved ones, let us not forget the ultimate statement of love is the reason we celebrate the season in the first place—- the birth of Christ, God saying “I love you” to each of us. Wise men still seek Him my friends.

This Veteran’s day would have marked the 28th year that I’ve had the pleasure of hosting a free breakfast for those who served in the military (typically before the parade). However, November 11 2020 has come with it’s limitations/restrictions due to COVID-19 and the parade has been cancelled. So, tomorrow, I’m grabbing take out from Kalin’s Cafe and going to enjoy breakfast on the lake with my favorite veteran. Pop is 89 and served in the US Army fighting in Korea where was shot through the leg and hand and awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in battle. Since we can’t collectively celebrate them this year—- let’s each pick a hero or 2 and spend some time with them individually. May God Bless America ~ The Kurt E. Harris Law Firm, P.C.~

Attention citizens in and surrounding DuQuoin. As you MAY now be aware, on October 26, 2020 the City attempted to pass and enter into a contract for an oil lease north of DuQuoin near and around the property and under the DuQuoin Lake.

To that end, I found out about this little known undertaking at the last minute and got placed on the agenda to voice concern over this controversial and potentially dangerous endeavor. However, the live feed "froze" at the start of my presentation then resumed at the completion.

In short, the presentment of opposing issues/concerns was technologically censored or should I say "sanitized" from the public view and consideration.

The vote on the issue has been tabled and I contacted the City to be able to speak before the counsel and citizens again later next month as (due to Covid restrictions) many of us must rely on the visual feed which was for some reason experiencing technological difficulties. I look forward to presenting the information that is not being discussed.
