As graduation season comes to an end, here’s something many parents don’t realize…

The day your child turns 18, you no longer automatically have the legal right to make decisions for them, even if they still live at home, are on your insurance, or you’re the one helping handle their everyday life.

Without a Powers of Attorney (Durable and Financial), parents likely will not be able to:
• Speak to doctors or access medical information;
• Help with banking or financial matters;
• Handle school or legal paperwork;
• Make emergency decisions if their child is injured or unable to speak for themselves;
• Assist with important day-to-day matters that suddenly become “private” once they’re legally an adult.

Nobody likes to think about emergencies happening, and let’s face it: Life Happens. Having these documents in place can be both convenient and can also save families from unnecessary stress, delays, and even heartache in already difficult situations.

If you have a new high school graduate or an 18-year-old, this is one of the most important conversations you can have before they head off to college, work, travel, or adulthood in general.

It’s not about control: It’s about protection, preparation, and you being able to help them when they need you most.

Beau E. Pemberton, and the staff at Bradberry and Pemberton, will be happy to help you and your family with getting these documents taken care of efficiently and cost-effectively.

Contact us today, and we look forward to hearing from you!
