Today, a Federal Judge in Texas issued a decision blocking the DACA Dreamer’s program from going forward. This decision is pending an appeal by the Biden Administration and it currently does not affect those with approved DACA status. The Texas Judge ordered all new DACA applications to be placed on hold, even though he is still allowing for new DACA applications to be filed. If you or a family member is affected by this decision, our office is offering free telephonic consultations, by appointment only, which can be scheduled by calling our office at: (562) 396-0319.

USCIS has announced a change to the Civics test, which is part of the Naturalization process. If you file your Naturalization (N-400) application after December 1, 2020, you will be taking the new and updated Civics test. The new Civics test will be slightly more difficult than the current one, since most Permanent Residents will now have to memorize 128 questions and correctly answer 12 out of 20 to pass.

Every 10 years, we revise the naturalization test to ensure it accurately assesses applicants’ knowledge of U.S. history, government & values. Today, we issued an updated version of the test, including more questions that will test applicants’ understanding of U.S history & civics. The number of test questions will be 20, with a minimum of 12 questions that must be answered correctly. The updated naturalization test will be used for all applicants who apply for naturalization on or after Dec. 1, 2020. The U.S. Supreme Court just ruled, 5-4, against the Trump administration and has allowed DACA to remain as law! This DACA decision is a temporary win and the fight is not over, since the decision allows for the Trump administration to try and remove DACA again, which we hope they do not do.

USCIS is now reopening many field offices and complying with CDC mask and social distancing requirements. As a reminder, since the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, any field office is subject to closure at any time and cancelled appointments will be automatically rescheduled via mail.

Today, we reopen many of our offices to the public. We’re following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's guidelines to protect our workforce and the public. If you’re feeling sick, please don’t come into our offices. Follow instructions on your appointment notice and reschedule when you’re healthy. Some of our offices remain temporarily closed due to state and local restrictions. Be sure to check your local office status before planning your visit.
