SCAM ALERT! I just got a new client who had received a phone call from one of those billboard lawyers the same day she got hurt. They offered to send her the police report. She just had to click on a link, which required her initials. She later found out they put her intitials on a fee contract without her knowledge. She never saw the agreement or was informed of the fee amount before "signing". She hired me and I am getting her out of the contract. BE CAREFUL!

IMPORTANT TIP: Before hiring an attorney, make sure you know what the attorney fees will be in advance. For personal injury cases, most attorneys charge a 33% contingency fee. Some are greedy and are charging 40% (or more) and will take settlement money that should be going to you.

Remember, when hiring an attorney in a personal injury matter, do your homework, check Google reviews, talk to neighbors and make sure your attorney has experience trying cases, not just settling for a best offer from an insurance company.

I wonder how many people watching those lawyer commercials showing supposedly injured clients realize they are actually actors. And why are the words "actor portrayal" in such small type?

Chicago has been flooded with out of state personal injury law firms putting slick commercials on the air. What they don't tell you is that most of these firms weren't even in business in Chicago 2 or 3 years ago and the guy on the commercial often isn't even licensed to practice in Illinois. Oh, and those "client" testimonials? Those are actors according to the tiny fine print. Why hire a firm that is deceiving you about something as basic as that?

PSA: NEVER SIGN ANYTHING FROM AN INSURANCE COMPANY BEFORE TALKING TO A LAWYER. Met with a potential client in an auto accident case. It is important to know that Illinois only requires $25,000.00 in insurance coverage. And many have no insurance at all. That is when your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage kicks in. Check your policy and make sure you have high limits. Otherwise, if you get seriously injured by an underinsured driver, you will not be able to get full compensation for your bills and injuries.
