Introducing Stacey L. Gleason, Of Counsel for Swenseth Law

Stacey practices in the areas of estate planning and tax law. Stacey earned her J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in Kansas, where she focused on agricultural law, estate planning, and tax. While in law school, she served as a Legal Research Assistant for Professor Roger McEowen. Her work included research and writing on agricultural estate planning, farm-related property disputes, and federal tax issues.

Stacey has also served as a lobbyist in Topeka, Kansas. She spent more than a decade as an educator at the high school and university levels. She and her husband, Kenyon, raised five sons who call and visit them often. Her background in teaching and communication, along with growing up on the family farm in South Dakota, brings a practical, accessible approach to her legal practice.

In her free time, Stacey enjoys going on drives with Kenyon, where they look for fun places to train her hunting dogs Sarge and Waylon.

Fact Check: What the Recent NFA Change Means for North Dakota Residents: Suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs.

Recent social media posts misstate the scope, permanence, and state-level impacts of the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) announcement regarding suppressors and short-barreled ri**es (SBRs). The accurate framing is that ATF has announced it will not enforce NFA registration and approval for these items nationwide, and the federal tax is now $0—but the law itself remains on the books, the policy is reversible, background checks still apply, and North Dakota’s own felony statute still turns on actually complying with (registering under) the NFA. A post claiming the requirements are simply “gone” or that North Dakotans can now possess these items with no process are inaccurate.
