Quick checklist:
- Chart the route: offshore vs ICW legs, known shoals, and pass conditions (Boca Grande, Clearwater Pass, East Pass Destin).
- Time the weather windows: wait for a settled Gulf, light northerlies or variable winds; avoid frontal passages and summer squalls.
- Confirm fuel range: plan conservative legs with 20–30% reserve; note marinas with high-speed diesel.
- Book marinas early: spring/summer fill fast—secure transient slips and after-hours fuel access.
- Mind tides and draft: passes and Panhandle entrances can shoal; check latest notices to mariners.

Sportfishing route (fast, long legs, ample range):
- Miami to Marathon: Fuel and stage at Faro Blanco or Marathon Marina.
- Marathon to Venice: Cross via Moser Channel; fuel at Venice Yacht Club or MarineMax Venice.
