Let’s clear the water on three topics that cause the most confusion with pre-owned yachts: depreciation, refits, and resale value. Depreciation isn’t one-size-fits-all; the curve varies dramatically by brand pedigree, model demand, maintenance culture, and market cycle. A well-kept 5–10 year-old yacht from a sought-after builder can outperform “younger” boats that lack service history or the right spec. Refits aren’t money pits by default either—targeted, documented upgrades that align with buyer demand (think new soft goods, AV/IT, navigation suites, paint, stabilizers) can preserve value and shorten time on market, while over-personalized interiors rarely pay back. And on resale, “only new sells” is a myth. Turnkey, properly serviced pre-owned yachts with clean surveys and the right options often command premium attention and quicker closings.

Smart buyer checklist:
- Pedigree and demand: Focus on models with proven resale momentum and strong builder reputation.
- Records and surveys: Full, organized service history, recent engine/generator services, and a fresh pre-listing survey.
- Refit strategy: Prioritize high-ROI items (paint, soft goods, AV/IT, nav) over heavy customization; keep invoices and warranties.
- Hours and usage: Balanced engine hours with documented warm-ups and oil analysis beat “ultra-low but idle.”
- Specification: Stabilizers, upgraded electronics, tender/garage solutions, and regional power compliance increase buyer pool.
- Presentation: Professional detailing, up-to-date photos, and a crisp spec sheet signal care—and support price.

Planning a South Florida to 30A delivery? Here’s the playbook we use to keep it smooth, safe, and on schedule—tailored to your hull, range, and comfort with open-water runs.

Quick checklist:
- Chart the route: offshore vs ICW legs, known shoals, and pass conditions (Boca Grande, Clearwater Pass, East Pass Destin).
- Time the weather windows: wait for a settled Gulf, light northerlies or variable winds; avoid frontal passages and summer squalls.
- Confirm fuel range: plan conservative legs with 20–30% reserve; note marinas with high-speed diesel.
- Book marinas early: spring/summer fill fast—secure transient slips and after-hours fuel access.
- Mind tides and draft: passes and Panhandle entrances can shoal; check latest notices to mariners.

Sportfishing route (fast, long legs, ample range):
- Miami to Marathon: Fuel and stage at Faro Blanco or Marathon Marina.
- Marathon to Venice: Cross via Moser Channel; fuel at Venice Yacht Club or MarineMax Venice.
- Venice to Destin/Panama City: Nonstop on a clean window; otherwise add a safety top-off at Clearwater Beach Marina or Tarpon Springs.
