For the April 15, 2026 tax deadline, simply dropping your return in a mailbox on the due date is no longer a guarantee of timely filing. Due to a USPS rule change (Rule 608.11) that went into effect in late 2025, postmarks now reflect when mail is processed at a regional center rather than when it is dropped off at a local office or collection box.
