It was Metro Volunteer Lawyers' great pleasure to join and give a shoutout at the 40 Hour Mediation Training led by the incredible Judy Mares-Dixon this week! It was wonderful to see so many individuals come together to learn about alternative dispute resolution and strategies to help families and individuals reach resolutions so they can move forward. In addition, it was inspiring to hear about the work that Morgan Tregenza is doing with the MAC and John Rymers with the Turelli Foundation. Metro Volunteer Lawyers offers opportunities for both experienced and new mediators to give back through volunteer work! Want to get involved?

MVL’s mission is “to bridge the gap in access to justice by coordinating the provision of pro bono legal services by volunteer lawyers within the Denver Metro Area to people who could not otherwise afford legal services for their civil legal issues.”

The thought of estate planning might seem like a distant concern for those struggling to make ends meet, but its importance for low-income individuals cannot be overstated. Estate planning, even with modest means, provides a safety net. It allows these individuals to choose who will care for their children, how their limited resources will be used to support their families, and ensures their wishes are respected, even in the face of hardship. It's about dignity, about ensuring that even in their absence, their love and care for their loved ones can continue to provide a measure of security and hope. Last Thursday we visited the Halcyon House senior living facility where Liz Jones did an outstanding presentation to over 25 seniors. Looking for ways to help? Contact MVL at www.denbar.org/mvl

Excited to highlight one of Metro Volunteer Lawyers' Spring interns - Paige Javor - who is currently pursuing a dual bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English at the University of Colorado Boulder. They chose to volunteer with MVL because they are deeply passionate about supporting causes that foster justice, equity, and community impact. This opportunity aligns with their commitment to making a meaningful difference through advocacy and service. Looking ahead, their future plans include attending law school to further develop their expertise and pursuing a career as a district attorney. Their goal is to use their legal education and skills to promote fairness, accountability, and positive change within the justice system. Welcome Paige - we are thrilled to have you join the team!

Last Friday, Elizabeth Jones from Metro Volunteer Lawyers presented valuable information to seniors at the Arvada House Apartments in Jefferson County about the importance of estate planning, including Wills, Living Wills, and Powers of Attorney. Tomorrow, January 24th, MVL volunteers will be returning to the Arvada House to assist seniors in completing these essential documents.

Anthony Pereira, Metro Volunteer Lawyers' managing attorney, helped welcome the newest cohort of 12 attorneys to Legal Entrepreneurs for Justice (LEJ) https://www.lejco.org/ on Wednesday. He spoke on MVL’s pro bono opportunities throughout the Denver Metro area. LEJ plays a vital role in shaping the future of the legal profession by supporting socially conscious lawyers who provide affordable legal services to low and middle-income individuals in Colorado.
Metro Volunteer Lawyers (MVL) has had the privilege of working with many LEJ attorneys over the years, and we greatly appreciate the dedication and innovation they bring to the legal community. In fact, several of our volunteers have come from LEJ cohorts, using their expertise to bridge the justice gap and expand access to legal services. We hope this new group continues that tradition by engaging in pro bono work and collaborating with MVL to support those in need. LEJ’s model aligns with MVL’s mission to bridge the gap in access to justice. Their model of empowering attorneys to offer predictable pricing, flexible representation, and innovative service models helps ensure that individuals who do not qualify for free legal services through MVL or similar organizations can still obtain high-quality legal representation.

LEJ is the legal incubator of the Colorado Attorney Mentoring Program. LEJ provides the training, mentoring, resources, and support for lawyers to establish, maintain and grow firms addressing the needs of low and middle-income legal consumers. LEJ lawyers are committed to offering predictable prici...
