Paid IEEPA tariffs? You may be owed a refund. On February 20, 2026, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that IEEPA does not authorize the president to impose tariffs — potentially impacting billions in collected duties.

If your business paid IEEPA tariffs, refund eligibility may depend on one key factor:

Are your entries liquidated or unliquidated?

✔️ Unliquidated = Still open, may allow corrections
⚠️ Liquidated = Finalized, strict 180-day protest window

Guidance from U.S. Customs and Border Protection is still developing, and litigation is expected. Waiting could mean missing critical deadlines.

Now is the time to:
• Identify impacted entries
• Confirm liquidation status
• Gather documentation
• Monitor filing deadlines

Preparation today positions you to act tomorrow.

If you think your company may qualify, let’s review your position before deadlines pass.

If you haven't filed taxes in a few years, you're not going to jail. The IRS offers first-time penalty abatement and it helps more people than you think.

Dentists: high revenue doesn’t always mean high profit. If your margins are shrinking, your bookkeeping categories might be the problem.

Lawyers: trust accounting mistakes can cost you your license.
This is not DIY bookkeeping, and not every bookkeeper is qualified!

If you are a new business owner, this is one habit we really wish we started sooner!!
Keeping personal and business expenses separate will save you so much time and stress later on. When everything goes on one card, tax season turns into trying to remember which charges were actually for the business. It is not fun.
Good news though!! You do not need a business credit card to do this the right way. Just use two cards. One for business expenses. One for personal spending.
That simple change makes expense tracking for small businesses way easier and keeps bookkeeping from becoming overwhelming.
If you are early in your business and want help setting things up the right way now, we are always happy to help!!

We recently worked with a business owner who got hit with a sales tax audit, all because their personal and business expenses were mixed together on the same credit card.
When that happens, auditors often assume every transaction is business-related, even things that clearly shouldn't be, like personal travel or vet bills. Once records get subpoenaed, it's really tough to untangle everything.
It didn't help that sales tax returns hadn't been filed on time either. Late filings make audits way more likely, even when there's zero bad intent.
Two simple habits that make a huge difference:
✅ Keep personal and business expenses completely separate
✅ File sales tax returns on time, even if you can't pay right away
Most business owners aren't doing anything wrong on purpose. You're just busy keeping everything running! A little structure goes a long way in protecting you and your business.
Need help staying organized? We're here for you.
